What is a Coin Flip?

A coin flip (or coin toss) is one of the simplest and most ancient methods of random selection. Each flip has an equal probability of landing heads or tails (50/50), making it a fair and unbiased way to make decisions or settle disputes. Our digital coin flip uses a cryptographically seeded random number generator to ensure true randomness — just like flipping a physical coin.

How to Use

  1. Click Flip Coin! to flip once — watch the 3D animation.
  2. Click Flip 10× to simulate 10 flips at once.
  3. Track your heads/tails stats and current streak below.
  4. The last 10 flips are shown as colored badges (H/T).

Frequently Asked Questions

In theory, yes — but physical coins have a slight bias toward the side that starts face-up when caught in the hand (roughly 51% vs 49%). Our digital coin uses Math.random() which produces a uniform distribution with no bias, making each flip exactly 50/50.

The gambler's fallacy is the mistaken belief that previous outcomes affect future probabilities. If you flip heads 10 times in a row, the next flip is still exactly 50/50 — it doesn't "owe" you tails. Each flip is completely independent. This is why tracking streaks is interesting but has no predictive value.

Probability is the likelihood of an event occurring, expressed as a number from 0 (impossible) to 1 (certain). A fair coin flip has probability 0.5 (50%) for heads. Getting 2 heads in a row is 0.5 × 0.5 = 0.25 (25%). Getting 10 heads in a row is 0.5^10 = 0.098% — rare but not impossible.

Use the "Flip 10×" button to simulate 10 coin flips at once. The results are added to your stats counter. For more advanced probability experiments with custom numbers of coins, use our Random Number Generator or Dice Roller tools.
