Mic Test — Test Your Microphone Online
Check that your microphone works and see your input level in real time.
How to test your microphone
This mic test checks whether your microphone is working directly in your browser — no software to install. When you start the test, your browser asks permission to use the microphone, then the level meter reacts to sound: speak, tap the mic or make noise and the bar should move. If the bar responds, your microphone works. If it stays flat while you talk, the mic may be muted, unplugged, blocked, or the wrong device may be selected.
Fixing a microphone that isn't working
- Allow microphone access when the browser asks (check the address-bar icon if you dismissed it).
- Pick the correct microphone from the device dropdown.
- Make sure the mic isn't muted in your system settings and the volume is up.
- For USB or headset mics, reconnect the device and try again.
Frequently asked questions
No. The tool only measures your input level to move the meter. Nothing is recorded, saved or uploaded — audio never leaves your device, and it stops the moment you press Stop or close the page.
Usually the wrong device is selected, the mic is muted or too quiet, or permission was blocked. Choose the right device from the dropdown, unmute it in your system settings, and check the microphone icon in the address bar.
If you previously blocked the mic, the browser remembers that. Click the padlock or camera/mic icon in the address bar, set Microphone to Allow, then reload and start the test again. Microphone access also requires a secure (HTTPS) connection.
Yes. On iOS and Android, tap Start and allow microphone access; the meter reacts to your phone's mic the same way it does on a computer.
