What is a reaction time test?
A reaction time test measures how quickly you respond to a visual signal — here, how fast you click once the box turns green. Your result is shown in milliseconds (ms): lower is faster. The average human visual reaction time is about 250 ms (a quarter of a second). Athletes, gamers and drivers often score 180–220 ms. Reaction time is influenced by sleep, focus, age, caffeine and practice.
How to use
- Click the box to begin — it turns red and says "Wait…".
- After a random delay, it turns grøn.
- Click as fast as you can the moment it's green.
- Clicking while it's still red counts as too soon — wait for green.
- Your last, best and average times are tracked over 5 attempts.
Frequently asked questions
The average visual reaction time is around 250 ms. Anything under 200 ms is very fast; competitive gamers and athletes often land between 150 and 200 ms. Times over 300 ms usually mean you were distracted or tired.
Signals take time to travel from your eyes to your brain and then to your hand. That biological delay is roughly 100–150 ms, so scores below about 100 ms usually mean you clicked early by guessing rather than truly reacting.
Get enough sleep, stay focused, warm up, and practise regularly. Good lighting, a low-latency mouse and reducing distractions all help shave off a few milliseconds.
It measures the time from the green signal to your click precisely, but your display's refresh rate and input lag add a small fixed offset. Use it to compare your own attempts rather than as a clinical measurement.
