What is the Afghan Afghani (AFN)?
The Afghan Afghani (AFN) is the official currency of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan. It is issued by Da Afghanistan Bank, the country's central bank. The Afghani is subdivided into 100 puls, although pul coins are rarely used in everyday transactions due to their low value. The currency was redenominated in 2002, replacing the old Afghani at a rate of 1,000 old to 1 new Afghani, as part of economic reforms following political transition.
